This medieval fortress 1 , perched on a rocky hillside, was for centuries the residence of the House of Schaff gotsch, the owners of a local demesne. Undefeated by enemies, it was destroyed by natural forces, after being struck by lightning. The ruins of the fortress have become a popular tourist attraction. In addition to the castle, the history of the nearby towns and villages is well worth investigating.
